WCPN Christmas 2006 by MeganElizabethMorris
This is the Sounds of Britain and Ireland Christmas Show, aired in December 2006. Joe Nicholls and Kevin McGinty were spectacular hosts as always!
A few notes:
Number three is a piece is by Robat Arwyn, and on the one recording I know of, it’s sung by Bryn Terfel, whom I adore. On the piano, of course, is Marge Adler — Marge did all the accompanying for the soloists that afternoon.
Clip number four is a track from Marge’s new CD, Balm in Gilead. She tells us a little bit about it and they play it for us, and if you just die of happiness and have to have more, I believe that CD Baby link lets you listen to some of the other tracks on her cd, too! I picked up a copy and she signed it for me, it’s a wonderful set and if you didn’t already know how brilliant she was, you’ll know now…
Six is Ann Mullins, but with a funny little twist: When I came in for rehearsals before recording, Ann asked if I might sing harmony to the chorus on her second piece, which, miraculously, I had once heard — it’s a Barenaked Ladies & Sarah McLachlan arrangement! There were a few nervous moments beforehand but it went really nicely, considering the last-minuteness of it all! (This is a GREAT song.)
Eight: My second piece for the show was a song I’d sung two years earlier on the same show, but I decided it was so pretty it deserved a reprise. It was delicious to get to sing this with Marge. It’s a really beautiful song. You might want to listen through to the end of the chit-chat on this clip, it includes my infamous MySpace reference, ha ha… :P
I hope you enjoyed them! Please do go visit Marge’s album on CD Baby and consider picking up a copy to support her and her utter wonderfulness. Christmastime or not, it was a lot of fun to go through these recordings. Thank you for listening! :}
