National Eisteddfod 2010: The Results

Well, it’s done! And I’m still in a haze, that’s for sure, but I know it went well. Angharad was gorgeous and sang beautifully, and she’s going on to the David Ellis. I’m no precise judge of Welsh diction or singing technique, but to me she sounded perfect — and it was a pleasure to share the stage with her.

She mentioned something afterward that I am grateful for as well: Not all competitions have competitors who are so friendly and warm with one another, so we feel quite lucky when that’s the case. (After I finish this post, I daresay I’ll go find her on Facebook). ;}

I barely remember being on stage, but I do remember that I wasn’t particularly nervous. I was certainly nervous in the preliminaries, but I felt very solid in the pavilion. I remembered how many of you woke up in the painfully early morning hours to watch me, and I felt good and loved and happy!

Angharad and I were pulled to a studio just off the gathering area, and they sat us on a pretty green couch and put little black mics on us and quizzed us about our experience. The host’s name was Sarah, I think, and I’m not sure what the station was, but they were all very friendly.

At 3pm BST, I’ll be talking again to Roy Noble — so see if you can find the live web radio feed for BBC Radio Wales, that’s where I’ll be! (If I can manage to find the link on the tablet, I’ll edit and add it here.)

Since we still have a few hours to wait until then, I’ve sent Marty off to scout out a few things I want to pick up while we’re here, and I’m sitting in that same gathering area with the long red couches and mobs and mobs of people, and video cameras, and so on! I’ll send a note to the list, as well, so that everyone is in the loop.

Those of you who found this site because it was mentioned on the mainstage — Croeso! Thank you for finding me!

Those of you who have been following this from the beginning: You really fueled me, there’s no doubt about it. It’s a glorious experience to be able to share. I’m so grateful for you all!

    Thank you for taking us along with you. You’re amazing. I’m no judge of Welsh diction, but I think your performance was better – and much more expressive.

    By the way, if there’s a clear night, go outside and stare at the stars. I remember there were lots of them back when I was there 20 years ago. We even lay down in the middle of the road to look at them (no worries, there were more sheep in the area than cars).

    Thank you so, so much, Jodi.

    I just read that there’s a meteor shower that should be visible from anywhere on Earth — that I missed last night. It said something about being visible the 11th or 12th as well, so I’m going to see if I can go out and look before I leave. It’s already beautiful here, so adding a meteor shower might do me in. I’m very excited to see!

    We, likewise, seem to have more sheep than cars. More sheep than people, too!

    Aunt Joan, you were a big reason things here have gone so smoothly — and I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying all the details! And don’t think I’m done, either, because there’s more coming! I have a lot more details to share now that I’m recovered a bit and have my brain functioning again, after all that singing! ^_^ Much love, and thank you so much!

    I read this comment to Marty and he laughed horribly. He LOVES the weather here, that’s for sure. (I do too, but I happen to not mind the 100-plus temperatures in Austin all that much. Hee!)

    She was a darling. It’d be hard not to wish her well! I hope I can stay in touch with her (hey, I wonder if she’ll help me practice my Welsh…?) ;}

    A friend passed along a comment in Welsh, something like “tri tro Cymro” which I think means something along the lines of “three for a Welshman”, and is meant to insist that I give it another go. How could I NOT give it another go? It’s an amazing adventure!!

    Thank you a ton, Paul. :}:}

    I surely will! ^_^

    Dude, my internet viewing contingent totally blew me away. Nobody else had a horde of web-savvy cheerleaders following their every move through the Eisteddfod (well, I’d have to guess) — and all the emails and Tweets and comments have made me feel so loved and supported! Thank you for your part in that, too. :}

    Thanks dude. I will, indeed, continue to rock out with my biwt out. (Come on. If you didn’t know that word, you’d assume it was something dirty. Wouldn’t you? Wouldn’t you?) ;}
